When Nuala Durkin, President of RESA Niagara heard a call for help, she quickly sprang into action to investigate the opportunity for our chapter to help.
Nadine is a retired nurse, whose job provided much more than a career but a life full of joy helping others. There were countless times throughout her career where Nadine stepped up to make a difference in the lives of others, sacrificing her personal time to visit her patients on holidays, doing their hair, providing comfort when nobody else was there to do these small things.
Nadine has a home located just off the shores of Lake Erie in Port Colborne, a cozy 1.5 story home with all 3 bedrooms upstairs and the principle rooms and the only bathroom on the lower level. Living in a 1.5 story home in a lakefront community doesn’t sound like a tough life, right?
For Nadine, life in her home is difficult. Nadine suffers from COPD with a 20% lung capacity, a serious respiratory disease that requires dependency on an oxygen machine. Breathing with a 20% capacity is strenuous, living in a home that requires constant use of the stairs can be devastating to her health.
Selling her home was her goal, but her physical inability to complete the daily tasks required in order to prepare it for sale was left as a thought. Nadine doesn’t have the physical ability to complete any items, including packing.
Nuala contacted Nadine, who was overjoyed to hear from her. A quick visit, and Nuala quickly reported her findings about the home to the hard working ladies that make up RESA Niagara. In very short order, “Nadine’s Angels” came to fruition and the work began.
Packing, painting, lighting, updates & staging were just some of the items Nadine received in order to help prepare her home for sale through RESA Niagara, but the generosity doesn’t stop here. The combined effort from all has led to Nadine’s home now being ready for market.
Nadine’s reaction to her “new” home was touching, she truly believed she would never have been able to do what was necessary in order to get it sold. Her reaction provoked tears from all, tears of joy from everyone because we all know this is a huge step in providing Nadine with the solution she has been seeking in order to move forward and focus on her health.
I know everyone is excited as we are to see the final results and the listing, please stay tuned for all the details and the big “reveal”.
RESA Niagara is honoured to have been able to step up and provide Nadine with the necessary tools to help her move from her home, that much quicker, and on to her new life in a home better suited for her needs.
